Stay away from caffeine

Have you heard of the urban myth that chocolate contributes to acne? That's because chocolate has small amounts of caffeine in it. Most people don't know this, but caffeine can be a significant contributor to acne and break outs. Your body can read the caffeine as stress and make your skin break out. I tested this personally and stopped my daily intake of caffeine, coffee and soda. It definitely made a difference for my skin. You can still eat chocolate and drink soda and coffee, but limit the amount, or maybe go cold turkey for a while to see if it makes a difference for you.

Don't touch your face a lot

It's important to limit the amount of oil that gets on your skin. Your fingers naturally produce oil, so touching your face a lot will transfer these oils to your face. If your resting your chin on your hand, try pulling your sleeve over your hand so your fingers don't touch your face, or rest your head on your fist rather than an open hand.

Get some sun

Spending some time outside and soaking up those rays can do wonders for your skin. The vitamin D and other benefits from the sun can really help rid your skin of acne, and the change in your pigment can even cover up previous marks or scars.

Change your sheets/pillow cases often

This might sound silly, but even if you shower in the evenings, a lot of oil and dirt etc. from your skin can transfer to the sheets. If you keep sleeping on these sheets they eventually get oily and can make your skin worse.

Wash your face

It's important to wash your face once or twice a day. This gets your skin totally clean and opens up your pores. Just don't wash your face too often or scrub it harshly as this can lead to dryness and irritation. This brings me to my next tip.

Use an oil-free moisturizer

This is very important. Your skin will get dry after you wash it or apply most topical creams/gels, so you need to moisturize. The problem is that most moisturizers contain oils that clog your pores. It can lead to a very frustrating cycle of dry skin and break outs, trust me I know. An oil-free moisturizer is the solution to your problem.

Treat your stress

Stress is a huge contributor to acne. Take a moment to assess your current stress levels. What can you do to cure your stress? How can you prevent this stress in the future? You might be surprised how much a reduced stress level can affect your skin.

See a Dermatologist

Finally, my most important tip, see a dermatologist! Don't just go to your usual doctor, find a local, qualified dermatologist. It's better to schedule a visit sooner than later since the wait can be up to 6 months. All of the above steps help, but this is the step that will lead to the most success with your battle with acne.
These little tips can really make a difference, in fact, following them made all the difference for me.
